abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a noncariogenic composition and drink capable of preventing or suppressing the dental caries of man, by using a mutant of human Streptococcus mutans as an active component. n CONSTITUTION: A mutant of human Streptococcus mutans having a bioactivity to suppress specifically the proliferation of cariogenic Streptococcus mutans and essentially devoid of plague-forming capability, e.g. Streptococcus mutans TMD- NC KUME (FERM-BP No.319), attenuated Streptococcus mutans K-III strain (FERM-BP No.316), etc. is subjected to the pure culture, and the obtained live bacterial cells are used as the active component.
