abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound having improved solubility in solvents without lowering the heat-resistance of the resin prepared therefrom, in high yield, by using a carbonyl-containing compound as a solvent for the photo- dimerization reaction of maleic anhydride. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula can be prepared by the photo-dimerization of maleic anhydride using a solvent comprising a compound having carbonyl group (preferably esters such as ethyl formate, ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, ethylene glycol diacetate, propylene glycol diacetate, etc.), preferably at -5W+30°C, using a high-pressure mercury lamp, etc. as a light source for the reaction. n USE: Raw material of polyimide for high-temperature use, plasticizer for PVC, epoxy resin hardener, alkyd resin, polyester, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
