titleOfInvention Production of synthetic resin foam
abstract PURPOSE: To produce a foam which is freed from degradation of resin because a blowing agent is added to the material resin at low temperature, by preparing a resin solution containing a decomposable blowing agent, desolventing the solution at a temperature lower than the decomposition point of the blowing agent, and charging a mold with the mixture and heating it. n CONSTITUTION: A synthetic resin foam is produced by dissolving or dispersing a resin material (e.g., polystyrene resin), a decomposable blowing agent (e.g., azodicarbonamide) and, optionally, other additives (aids such as zinc stearte or fillers) in a solvent, desolventing this resin solution or dispersion at a temperature lower than the decomposition point of the decomposable blowing agent to obtain a resin material compound containing the decomposable blowing agent, charging a mold with this compound and heating this to decompose the blowing agent. Because the blowing agent is added to the resin material at a low temperature, heating during processing becomes unnecessary, which in turn prevents the resin from being degraded. Further, because these components are processed in liquid form, the mixing time can be shortened and a blowing agent having a low decomposition point can be used, thus making it possible to prevent the resin from being degraded during expansion molding. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
