abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic tape having excellent runnability, durability, etc. by forming a recording layer consisting of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film on one surface of a nonmagnetic base body and providing a back layer contg. thermoplastic polyester and nitrocellulose as a binder and contg. carbon powder on the opposite surface. CONSTITUTION:A recording layer consisting of a thin ferromagnetic metallic film formed on one surface of a nonmagnetic substrate of a polyethylene terephthalate film, etc. A back layer contg. 5-100pts.wt. carbon powder in 100pts.wt. mixed binder composed of 90-30pts.wt. copolymerized polyester or modified polyester improved in solubility of thermoplastic polyester and 10-70pts.wt. nitrocellulose is formed on the opposite surface of the substrate to 1.0-0.1mu thickness. The back layer having excellent resistance to blocking and running durability is thus formed without spoiling the electromagnetic conversion characteristic and without decreasing the corrosion resistance of the magnetic layer.
