titleOfInvention Preparation of monomer composition containing neodymium
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare the titled composition useful as an optical resin material etc. having wavelength selectivity, by adding specific amounts of neodymium oxide, methacrylic acid and water to a monomer, thermally reacting the mixture, adding a specific carboxylic acid, a monomer, etc. to the reaction product, and removing water and the solid component from the system. n CONSTITUTION: A monomer composition is made to react under heating in the presence of (A) 0.5W1.5wt%, based on the total weight of the polymerizable monomers in the composition, of neodymium oxide, (B) 3W6 times mole, based on the gram-atom number of the neodymium, of (meth)acrylic acid, and (C) ≥3pts.wt. of water per 1pt.wt. of neodymium oxide. The reaction mixture is added with (D) a carboxylic acid other than (meth)acrylic acid and (E) a methacrylic acid ester and/or stryrene, and water and the solid component are removed from the system to obtain the objective composition. The carboxyl group equivalent of the component (D) is 0.3W4 times mole based on the (meth)acrylic acid, and the total carboxyl group equivalent is 3W10 times mole based on the gram-atom number of neodymium. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
