titleOfInvention | Production of 5-methoxy-2-nitrophenol |
abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate of agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, etc., in high yield and purity, by hydrolyzing 2,4-dimethoxynitrobenzene with an alkali catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: 2,4-Dimethoxynitrobenzene is hydrolyzed at 90W110°C for 5W48hr in the presence of an alkali catalyst such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, etc. After the completion of hydrolysis, the reaction mixture is acidified, and purified by steam distillation, the dissociative extraction, the recrystallization, etc. to obtain the objective compound. The molar ratio of the alkali to the starting compound is 2W10, and the concentration of the aqueous solution is 5W 35wt%, preferably 20W30%. The starting compound can be obtained by methoxylating 2,4-dichlorobenzene with sodium methylate in methanol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
