titleOfInvention Preparation of hydantoins
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound without preparing an oily substance, by using an aqueous medium having a specific concentration, adding CO 2 and ammonia in a specific molar range to it to form a reaction solvent system, reacting it with a substituted benzaldehyde cyanohydrin which is added dividedly. n CONSTITUTION: In preparing a hydantoin shown by the formula IV by reacting a substituted benzaldehyde cyanohydrin shown by the formula I (X is H, OH, alkyl, alkoxy, or halogen)(S-BCH for short) with CO 2 and ammonia, 5W35wt% uniform aqueous solution of alcohol, ether, alcohole-ether, or ketone (e.g., methanol, etc.) miscible with water is used as a reaction solvent, CO 2 and ammonia are added to the solvent in such a way that the relationship shown by the formula II and formula III are satisified. The reaction is carried out by adding S-BCH dividedly, to give the desired compound shown by the formula IV without preparing an oily or tarry substance. n USE: An intermediate raw material for D-form substituted phenylglycine. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
