titleOfInvention Manufacture of aqueous resin
abstract PURPOSE: To readily obtain a homogeneous aqueous resin of high stability, capable of forming film of high performance, by dispersing a neutralized polyurethane in water followed by adding a polymerizable ethylene compound to the resultant water dispersion to carry out an emulsion polymerization. n CONSTITUTION: First, (A) (a) a polyaddition reaction product from a polyol having a molecular weight of 200W4,000 and an organic diisocyanate or (b) an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer is subjected to crosslinking reaction with (B) a chain extender with a molecular weight ≤300 (e.g., dimethylol propionic acid). Subsequently, the resultant polyurethane is neutralized by, for example, an amine followed by dispersion in water. The water dispersion thus formed is then incorporated with (C) a polymerizable ethylene compound (pref. an unsaturated monoepoxide-containing one such as an acrylic acid glycidyl ester) to carry out an emulsion polymerization, thus obtaining the objective resin. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
