titleOfInvention Selective preparation of tetramethylbenzene
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain tetramethylbenzene selectively, in the methylation of an aromatic hydrocarbons composed mainly of 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene and prepared from reformed naphtha and cracked naphtha, by carrying out the methylation in the presence of a specific zeolite catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: 1,2,4,5-Tetramethylbenzene can be produced selectively by contacting (A) a mixture of (i) an aromatic hydrocarbon raw material preparable (A) a mixture of (i) an aromatic hydrocarbon raw material preparable from reformed naphtha and cracked naphtha, containing 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene in larger amount than any other components, preferably composed mostly of 8W10C hydrocarbons and (ii) a methylation agent, under conversion condition, with (B) a catalyst containing a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of adsorbing an alkylbenzene molecule having the minimum molecular diameter of 7W8Å, having an adsorption capacity of at least 2ml per 100g of the crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite, and having a shape-selective adsorptivity dependent on the molecular diameter of the alkylbenzene having the minimum molecular diameter of the above range. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
