abstract PURPOSE: To produce a liquid stabilizer capable of providing a good water- stopping effect, by dispersing and swelling a water-absorptive acrylic polymer powder in water. n CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble acrylic monomer (acrylamide or acrylic acid, its amine, ammonium or alkali metal salt is used) is dissolved in 40W60wt% water, and copolymerized with 50W500ppm, based on the water-soluble acrylic monomer, of a divinyl compound (e.g., N,N-methylenebisacrylamide), grinding the copolymer without using any drying step by evaporating the water by the heat of polymerization, and the resulting water-soluble swellable powder (≤80 mesh) is dispersed in water to form a liquid stabilizer which can provide a good water-stopping effect without the aid of bentonite. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
