abstract PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound, useful as a catalyst for the manufacture of urethane foam, in relatively high selectivity with an extremely simple process, by reacting N,N-dimethylaminoethanol with sulfuric acid under heating. n CONSTITUTION: N,N-Dimethylaminoethanol of formula I is made to react with sulfuric acid by heating (preferably at 130W250°C, especially at 150W200°C) while removing the by-produced water from the system, and the resultant sulfate is neutralized with an alkaline compound such as NaOH, KOH, etc. to obtain the objective bis[2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl] ether of formula II. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
