abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high conversion and selectivity, by carrying out the esterification reaction with an alcohol in a reaction system containing conjugated carboxylic acid and non-conjugated carboxylic acid in the presence of I 2 and water, thereby esterifying only the nonconjugated carboxylic acid. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R is group of formula II, -CH=CH-, formula III, etc.; n is 1W20) containing conjugated and non-conjugated carboxylic acid groups in one molecule, e.g. 2-methyleneglutaric acid, etc., or a mixture containing both conjugated carboxylic acid and non-conjugated carboxylic acid as separate compounds, e.g. the acids of formula IV (R 1 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, etc.) and formula V (R 2 =R 1 ) such as n-hexanoic acid and n-hexenoic acid, is esterified with an alcohol of formula R 3 -OH (R 3 is alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl), e.g. methanol, in the presence of I 2 and water at -50W+80°C for 0.5W 240hr to obtain the objective compound of formula VI (X is group of formula VIIor R 2 ). n USE: Raw material of polymers, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
