titleOfInvention Preparation of cationic emulsion
abstract PURPOSE:To prepare a useful cationic emulsion, by a method wherein the amino group of a copolymer of styrene, acrylic ester and amino ester is converted to a salt form and the resulting water soluble copolymer is independently used as polysoap to perform the emulsion polymerization of a hydrophobic monomer. CONSTITUTION:The amino group of a copolymer of styrene, acrylic ester and dialkylaminoethyl methacrylate or dialkylaminoethyl acrylate (hereinafter mentioned as amino ester for short) is converted to a salt form or quaternized to form a water soluble copolymer which is, in turn, independently used as a high- molecular surfactant (hereinafter mentioned as polysoap) to perform the emulsion polymerization of a hydrophobic monomer such as styrene, methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate or vinyl acetate and a useful cationic emulsion is prepared. That is, this invention makes it possible to hold an amino ester amount to a low concn. while the surface finish effect of the polysoap is maintained.
