titleOfInvention Production of chemically modified carrageenan
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a chemically modified carrageenan, by adding a basic substance to a mixture of a hydrophilic organic solvent, water and carrageenan, reacting the resulting suspension with glycidyl (meth)acrylate to immobilize the carrageenan. n CONSTITUTION: A basic suspension of carrageenan is obtained by mixing a hydrophilic organic solvent (e.g., 2-propanol) with water and carrageenan (e.g., k- carrageenan, preferably one having a MW≥1×10 4 ) and adding a basic substance (e.g., diethylamine). Then, this suspension is reacted with a substance selected from the group consisting of glycidyl acrylate and glycidyl methacrylate each of which preferably contains a polymerization inhibitor (e.g., p-methoxyphenol) to thereby obtain a chemically modified carrageenan useful as an anticoagulative medical material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
