NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (X is halogen; Y is H or both X and Y are halogen). n EXAMPLE: 6(R)-7(R,S)-Bromo-8-oxo-2,2-dimethyl-3-oxa-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]octane. n USE: Useful as a synthetic intermediate for β-lactam compounds useful as an antibiotic substance. n PREPARATION: A 8-oxo-2,2-dimethyl-3-oxa-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]octane of formula IIis reacted with a base, e.g. butyllithium, and then a halogenating agent, e.g. N-halogenosuccinimide, is reacted therewith to afford the aimed compound of formula I . The reaction is carried out by cooling the reaction mixture usually within -80W+25°C temperature range in an organic solvent, e.g. tetrahydrofuran (THF), in an atmosphere of an inert gas, e.g. argon. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
