titleOfInvention Liquid crystal pyrazine derivative and its preparation
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The pyrazine derivative of formula I (R is 3W10C aliphatic alkyl or acyl). n EXAMPLE: 2-Pentyloxy-5-(4-cyanophenyl)pyrazine. n USE: Useful as a component of liquid crystal composition. It has the property of liquid crystal in itself, and is used as a mixture with various liquid crystal compounds at a proper ratio to improve the properties of liquid crystal composition. n PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the 5-(4-cyanophenyl)-2-pyrazinol of formula II with the alkyl halide or acyl halide of formula R-X (X is halogen) in the presence of a base. The compound of formula II can be synthesized by (1) oxidizing 4-cyanoacetophenone derived from commercially available 4-bromoacetophenone and cuprous cyanide, with selenium dioxide, and (2) reacting the resultant 4-cyanophenylglyoxal hydrate with glycinamide hydrochloride. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
