abstract | NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R 1 is 1W4C straight-chain alkyl) and its salt. n EXAMPLE: D-4-[N-( 4-Acetlxy-3,3-dimethyl-2-hydroxy-n-butyryl )amino]-n-butyric acid. n USE: An agent for improving the cerebral metabolism and higher order cerebral function. It is converted to hopantenic acid in the body and gives high hopantenic acid concentration in the plasma and brain compared with the administration of calcium hopantenate. n PROCESS: The compound of formula I and its salt can be prepared either by the catalytic reduction of the novel 4-aminobutyric acid ester derivative of formula III(R 2 is group eliminable by catalytic reduction) followed by optional conversion to a salt, or by the reaction of the 4-amino-butyric acid derivative of formula III with a reactive derivative of the carboxylic acid of formula R 1 COOH. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
