titleOfInvention Manufacture of arsenious acid
abstract PURPOSE: To control the concn. of antimony in a soln. contg. arsenic to a very low level when the soln. contg. arsenic obtd. by reacting an aqueous soln. contg. copper sulfate with a precipitate contg. arsenic sulfide is reduced to recover arsenious acid, by specifying the concn. of copper in the soln. contg. arsenic. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous soln. contg. copper sulfate is reacted with a precipitate contg. arsenic sulfide at about 70W90°C with stirring so that the resulting slurry has about 10W15% concn. and the slurry is subjected to solid-liq. separation to obtain copper sulfide and a soln. contg. arsenic. Copper in the soln. contg. arsenic is removed until the concn. of copper in the soln. is lowered to ≤3g/l. A reducing agent such as a gas contg. SO 2 is added to the purified soln. contg. arsenic to reduce quinquevalent arsenic present in the soln. to tervalent arsenic. The reduced soln. contg. arsenic is concentrated by heating or other method, it is cooled to crystallize arsenious acid, and solid-liq. separation is carried out to recover the arsenious acid of high purity. The concn. of antimony in the arsenious acid is very low. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
