abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain an asymmetric pore size gas permeable membrane having excellent heat resistance at low cost, by using aromatic polyester as a base material. n CONSTITUTION: The titled membrane is formed of a mixture consisting of aromatic polyester having a recurring unit shown by a formula and a polymer such as polycarbonate, polyether or polysulfone shown by a formula II. The asymmetric pore size membrane having such composition is obtained by a method wherein the mixture of the above mentioned polymers is dissolved in a solvent mixture consisting of a cyclic nitrogen-containing solvent such as amides and a second solvent with a low b.p. to obtain a solution which is then uniformly cast on a support and, after a part of the solvent is evaporated, the whole is immersed in water to gel the coating layer. By further depositing a membrane with a thickness of 1μm or less on the surface of the dense layer of this membrane by the plasma polymerization of a compound having tertiary carbon or an org. silane compound, gas selectivity can be enhanced while maintaining high permeability. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
