titleOfInvention Water-absorptive and water-retaining material
abstract PURPOSE: To provide the titled material which has a high initial swelling rate, high water absorption and does not suffer lowering in water retention even when used over a long period of time, by blending a finely divided, highly water-absorptive high-molecular material and a swellable urethane resin with a non-rigid resin or rubber. n CONSTITUTION: A finely divided, highly water-absorptive material (A) having an average particle size of 100μ or below (e.g. a saponified product of a copolymer of a vinyl ester and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid in a molar ratio of 20:80W80:20 or crosslinked polysodium acrylate) and a swellable urethane resin (B) (e.g., urethane prepolymer which exhibits at least 10% weight gain after immersed in tap water at 25°C for 7 days), are uniformly blended with a hydrophobic substrate such as a non-rigid resin (e.g. ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer) or rubber (e.g. natural rubber or polybutadiene rubber). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
