titleOfInvention | Preparation of alkyl-monosubstituted hydroquinone |
abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a diol component of a wholly aromatic polyester having excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical characteristics, by using hydroquinone and an alkylpolysubstituted hydroquinone as raw materials, and by thermal reaction of the raw materials using phosphoric acid as a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is prepared by reacting hydroquinone with an alkyl-polysubstituted hydroquinone in the presence of phosphoric acid catalyst at 115W160°C, preferably 120W150°C. The alkyl-polysubstituted hydroquinone is the compound of formula I [n is 2,3 or 4; X is alkyl, especially alkyl of formula II (R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are H, aliphatic hydrocarbon group, etc.)], and the amount of hydroquinone is (n'-1)×0.85W(n'-1)×1.25mol per 1mol of the compound of formula III (n' is average value of n). The amount of the catalyst is preferably 3W5pts.wt. per 1pt.wt. of the sum of the raw materials. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio |
