abstract PURPOSE: A cholagogue containing an essence obtained by extracting crude drugs consisting of water plantain tuber, hoelen, etc. which is optionally blended with Artemisiae capillaris Flos with an organic solvent such as methanol, etc. as an active ingredient. n CONSTITUTION: Five kinds of crude drugs consisting of 3.0W6.0 water plantain tuber, 3.0W4.5 hoelen, 3.0W4.5 Atractylodes, 3.0W4.5 polyporus, 1.5W3.0 powdered Cinnamon bark, or six kinds of crude drugs adding 3.0W6.0 Artemisiae capillaris Flos, are extracted with an organic solvent such as methanol, ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc. under heating at 30W80°C, filtered and concentrated to obtain an essence. A cholagogue containing the essence as an active ingredient is thus obtained.
