titleOfInvention Preparation of poultice
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain a poultice gelatinizable uniformly at an arbitrary rate of crosslinking, and having excellent age stability, by crosslinking a water-soluble polymer with a complexing agent and two or more polyvalent matellic salts capable of reacting with said complexing agent and giving respective complex salts having different stability constants from each other. n CONSTITUTION: A water-soluble polymer such as gelatin, polyacrylic acid PVA, gum arabic, etc. is swollen or dissolved in water (about 10W60% of the whole poultice). A polyvalent metallic salt (preferably a slightly soluble or hardly soluble salt) capable of forming a complex salt having high stability constant (pK) is added to the solution, and then the mixture is added with a complex of (a) a polyvalent metallic salt forming a complex salt having lower pK than the above salt and (b) a complexing agent (e.g. EDTA, nitrilotriacetic acid, etc.). The crosslinking reaction takes place by the free polyvalent metallic ion produced by the metallic ion exchange in the complex. The amount of the polyvalent metallic salt having high pK is 0.5W5 equivalent, especially 0.8W1.5 equivalent, and that of the salt having low pK value is 0.2W20 equivalent, especially 0.8W5 equivalent, per 1 equivalent of the complexing agent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio
