abstract PURPOSE: A catalytic component capable of providing a high-stereoregularity, high-bulk density olefin polymer in high yields, prepared by contacting a magnesium alkoxide with a metal carboxylate compound, a halogen-containing compound and a titanium compound. n CONSTITUTION: A catalytic component with specific surface area of about 100W 700m 2 /g and pore volume of about 0.05W0.55cm 3 /g is obtained by contacting a magnesium alkoxide, e.g., Mg(OCH 3 ) 2 , with a metal carboxylate compound of the formula, wherein R is a (substituted) hydrocarbon group, M is a Group IIaWVa metal of the periodic table, m is the valence of metal M, and n is 1Wm, e.g., aluminum acetate dichloride, a halogen-containing compound, e.g., silicon tetrachloride, and a titanium compound, e.g., titanium tetrachloride.
