abstract | PURPOSE: The titled solid, prepared by bringing magnesium into contact with a halogenated hydrocarbon and an alkoxyl compound, and if necessary with an organoaluminum compound or electron donative compound, and useful as a catalytic component for the stereoregular polymerization. n CONSTITUTION: (A) Metallic magnesium is brought into contact with (B) a halogenated hydrocarbon of the formula RX[R is 1W20C (cyclo)alkyl, etc.; X is halogen], e.g. n-C 4 H 9 Cl, and (C) an alkoxyl compound of the formula[X' is H, halogen, 1W10C (cyclo)alkyl, etc.; R' is 1W20C (cyclo)alkyl, etc.; m is 0, 1 or 2], e.g. ethyl orthoformate, and if necessary with an organoaluminum compound, e.g. (C 2 H 5 ) 2 AlCl, or electron donative compound, e.g. benzoic anhydride, to give the aimed substance.
