abstract PURPOSE: To provide the title compsn. suitable for a TN display device of excellent display quality, containing a 5-alkyl-2-(4'-alkylphenyl)-1,3-dioxane. n CONSTITUTION: 5W20wt% 5-alkyl-2-(4'-alkylphenyl)-1,3-dioxane of the formula (wherein R, R' are each a 2W7C straight-chain alkyl, alkoxy) is blended with a nematic liquid crystal such as p-cyanophenyl p'-n-butylbenzoate. n EFFECT: Δε/ε⊥ (dielectric constant in anisotropy/dielectric constant in the direction of shorter molecule axis) is small.
