abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a plastic lens with improved unbrittleness and high transparency while improving the polymn. rate by polymerizing neopentyl glycol diacrylate in the presence of a heat curing type polymn. initiator or an ultraviolet curing type polymn. initiator. CONSTITUTION:Neopentyl glycol diacrylate represented by the formula is polymerized in the presence of a heat curing type polymn. initiator and/or an ultraviolet curing type polymn. initiator to obtain a lens. The former initiator includes t-butyl peroxybenzoate and benzoyl peroxyde, and the latter initiator includes benzoin isopropyl ether and 2-ethyl-anthraquinone. Since neopentyl glycol diacrylate has low viscosity and high transferrability, polishing after the polymn. is unnecessary. The time required to initiate the polymn. of neopentyl glycol diacrylate is several hr in case of the heat curing type polymn. initiator, yet when the ultraviolet curing type polymn. initiator is used, the time is only several min.
