abstract PURPOSE: To prepare the titled aqueous copolymer solution, by copolymerizing a diolefin and maleic anhydride in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile, distilling out the solvent in the presence of water, etc., and distilling out tetramethylsuccinonitrile produced as a decomposition by-product of the catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of a diolefin-maleic anhydride copolymer obtained by the solution polymerization using azobisisobutyronitrile as a catalyst, is prepared directly from the polymerized liquid product without separating the polymer, by adding water or a basic aqueous solution to the polymerized liquid, distilling the mixture to distil out the polymerization solvent, and then distilling the residue with or without addition of water or a basic aqueous solution to distil out the tetramethylsuccinonitrile produced as a decomposition by-product of the catalyst, leaving the objective aqueous solution of copolymer. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
