abstract | PURPOSE: A synthetic lubricating oil having a high viscosity index, a low power point and excellent oxidation stability that contains as a base oil a copolymer oil obtained by copolymerizing ethylene and an α-olefin in a medium containing an aromatic hydrocarbon. n CONSTITUTION: Ethylene and a 3W14C α-olefin (e.g. propylene or 1-butene) are copolymerized in a medium containing an aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g. benzene, toluene or styrene) in the presence of hydrogen and a catalyst (e.g. a catalyst comprising vanadyl trichloride and ethylaluminum sesquichloride) at about 0W70°C. The object synthetic lubricating oil is prepared by using as a base oil the thus obtained copolymer oil having an ethylene content of 24W75mol%, an α-olefin content of 24W 75mol% and an aromatic hydrocarbon component content of 1W29mol% and having a number-average molecular weight of 300W2,000. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio |
