titleOfInvention Preparation of polyester
abstract PURPOSE: To carry out the melt polymerization of a polyester, in high efficiency, using a raw material containing water and decomposable components, by keeping at least a part of the raw material in the absence of a catalyst at a temperature between the melting point and the decomposition temperature of the raw material. n CONSTITUTION: A dicarboxylic acid lower alkyl ester (e.g. dimethyl sebacate) and a glycol (e.g. hexamethylene glycol), or an oxycarboxylic acid lower alkyl ester (e.g. hydroxyethoxybenzoic acid) are charged in a reactor as the raw materials, and heated at a temperature at or above the melting point and below the decomposition temperature of the raw material (e.g. 120W145°C) under inert gas stream for a definite time interval to distill off at least a part of the low-boiling component such as water or the decomposition product in the raw material. After the treatment, the raw material are subjected to the melt polymerization in the presence of a catalyst (e.g. tetrabutyl titanate). n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
