titleOfInvention Preparation of dried water swelling polymer
abstract PURPOSE: To distill away remaining water from a water swelling polymer at low cost without damaging the shape of a water swelled polymer, by treating a water swelled body of water swelling polymer of poly(meth)acrylic acid monovalent salt type with an amphoteric polyvalent metal salt to carry out chemical dehydration, followed by a specific treatment. n CONSTITUTION: A water swelled body of a water swelling polymer containing wholly or partially a poly(meth)acrylic acid monovalent salt is adjusted to a pH of 7W9 by an acid, and ≥ stoichiometric amount of an amphoteric polyvalent metal salt (e.g., hydrochloride of Zn, etc.) is added to the water swelled body and a monovalent ion of carboxyl group in the polymer is replaced by a polyvalent metal ion to carry out chemical dehydration. An alkali metal hydroxide (e.g., sodium hydroxide, etc.) or ammonium hydroxide in an amount ≥ twice as much as a corresponding amount of the carboxyl group in the replaced polymer is added dropwise to the replaced polymer in a solution containing ≥50wt% water-soluble organic solvent (e.g., acetone, etc.), and the organic solvent together with the remaining water is distilled away by heating, etc. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
