titleOfInvention Production of furan derivative
abstract PURPOSE: Furfuryl alcohol is etherified by heating in an alcohol to produce a furan derivative used as an intermediate of perfume and agricultural chemical with industrial advantage. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formulaI(R 1 is H, alkyl, alkenyl; R 2 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, furyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl) is heat in an alcohol to give a compound of formula II (A is residue of alcohol). As an alcohol, is used a monohydric one such as methanol ora polyhydric one such as ethylene glycol. The amount is preferably 2W50times the weight of the compound of formulaI. In the reaction, a catalyst such as various kinds of metal salts, orgnic quaternary ammonium salt, surfactant or alcohol may be used. The reaction temperature is usually 20W200°C n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
