abstract NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formulaI(R is grup of formula II, formula III). n EXAMPLE: N'-(6-Hydroxyoctanoyl)nornicotine. n USE: Irritation inhibitor for tobacco, flavor improver showing great effect on reducing diagreeable taste and increasing good taste. n PREPARATION: Monomethyl adipate reacts with thionyl chloride to give adipic methyl ester chloride. The product is gradually added to a diethylcadmium solution and refluxed. Then, the reaction mixture is hydrolyzed with conc. sulfuric acid to form 6-oxo-octanoic methyl ester. The compound is made into the free acid by saponification with KOH-ethanol and neutralization with an acid to give the crystals of 6-oxo-octanoic acid. A solution of carbonyldiimidazole in dioxane is added to the acid and made to react with nornicotine to produce the compound of formulaIwhere R is group of formula II. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
