titleOfInvention Separation of polyhydric phenol
abstract PURPOSE: An extractant hard-soluble in water, selected from ethers, ketones and esters, is used to separate polyhydric phenol from an aqueous solution containing polyhydric phenol and cyclohexanepolyols selectively with industrial advantage. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing polyhydric phenol and cyclohexane polyol which are difficult to be separated from each other by distillation or crystallization, because of their similarity in physical properties, which is obtained, for example, on the production of polyhydric phenol such as catechol, resorcinol, hydroquinone or pyrogallol by dehydrogenation of cyclohexane polyol, is brought into contact with an extractant selected from ethers, ketones and esters, all of which are hard soluble in water, such as isobutyl methyl ketone to extract the polyhydric phenol selectively. The amount of the extractant is usually 0.05W20 times the volume of the aqueous solution and the extraction is preferably operated in an inert atmosphere such as nitrogen. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
