titleOfInvention Fractional separation of nitrilotriacetic acid sodium salt
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a metal chelating agent, etc., continuously, and to reduce the COD of the waste water, by heating and concentrating the aqueous reaction liquid, filtering the titled compound from the hot concentrated solution, cooling the mother liquid under specific conditions to separate the by-products by fractional crystallization, and recycling the filtrate. n CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing nitrilotriacetic acid sodium salt and glycolic acid sodium salt is concentrated by heating, and the crystallized nitrilotriacetic acid sodium salt is separated by filtering the solution while it is still hot. A small amount of water or warm water is added to the hot filtrate to prevent the crystallization of the remaining nitrilotriacetic acid in the mother liquid during the subsequent cooling process, and the mother liquid is cooled to 30W40°C. The crystallized glycolic acid sodium salt separated and the filtrate is recycled. By the above steps, nitrilotriacetic acid sodium salt can be continuously separated. The glycolic acid sodium salt which is a by-product and has hitereto been discarded in the waste liquid, can be separated in high efficiency. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
