titleOfInvention Solid-skin phenolic foam and manufacture thereof
abstract PURPOSE: To improve friability and to form a skin layer having better adhesiveness with paper and the like on the surface of a foam, by a method wherein a liquid resol type phenolic resin precondensate containing an acidic curing agent, a foaming agent, and foam stabilizer is foamed and cured in a preheated sealed mold. n CONSTITUTION: A foaming agent, e.g., Freon 11, and a foam stabilizer, e.g., nonionic and silicone surfactant used in combination, are mixed to and agitated with a resol type phenolic resin precondensate in which a ratio of formaldehyde to phenol is 1.5W1.8, the moisture content is 5W20%, and the viscosity is 300W10,000cps/ 20°C. Then, an acidic curing agent, e.g., sulfuric acid, is further added therto and agitated. Th mixture is poured into a mold in which a metal surface in contact with a surface whereon a skin layer is to be formed is preheated at 50W100°C, and is foamed and cured in a sealed state. Thus, a phenolic foam having improved friability and a surface skin layer with better adhesiveness with plastic sheet, paper or the like, is obtained. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
