abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance useful as an organic synthetic intermediate, in high yield and selectivity under mild conditions, by isomerizing glycidyl ether with a catalyst comprising a 8-group transition metal carbonyl complex. n CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula II is prepared by contacting the glycidyl ether of formula I (R is primary, secondary or tertiary, straight or branched, saturated or unsaturated alkyl, saturated or unsaturated cycloalkyl, or aralkyl) with a 8-group transition metal carbonyl complex catalyst. The catalyst is pref. a binuclear complex of a 8-group transition metal [e.g. dicobalt octacarbonyl [Co 2 (CO) 8 ]]. To produce the active species from the complex for the smooth reaction, a Lewis base (esp. alcohol) is pref. used as a solvent.
