abstract PURPOSE: To provide a light stabilizer which has excellent water resistance and stability against outdoor exposure and in which bleeding from the interior of a polymer toward its surface is low, containing a specified isocyanuric acid derivative. n CONSTITUTION: 1,3,5-Triglycidyl isocyanurate and 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone (or its derivative) in a molar ratio of 1:3W3.5, are reacted together in a solvent inert to epoxy group such as toluene and in the presence of a basic catalyst such as triethylamine at room temp. to 200°C, to produce a light stabilizer composed of an isocyanuric acid derivative of the formula, wherein R 1 is H, R 3 CO-; R 2 is H, halogen, a 1W18C alkyl; R 3 is H, a 1W17C alkyl. 0.01W5wt% said light stabilizer is added to a synthetic polymer such as PP or polyester. n EFFECT: The shade of a synthetic polymer contg. said light stabilizer added thereto is not deteriorated.
