abstract NEW MATERIAL:1-(1H-Indol-4-yloxy)-methyl-ethylene carbonate of formula I. n USE: An intermediate of a muscle relaxant and a compound which is expected to have β-receptor blocking activity. n PROCESS: The compound of formula I is prepared by reacting 1-(1H-indol-4-yloxy)- propane-2,3-diol with phosgene in the presence of an acid acceptor (e.g. dimethylaniline, diethylaniline, pyridine, etc.) in a solvent such as anhydrous toluene, anhydrous xylene, anhydrous benzene, anhydrous ether, etc., at ≤10°C, pref. -5W +5°C, for 2W5hr.
