titleOfInvention Purifying method of glycol
abstract PURPOSE: To improve the quality of a glycol and reutilize the glycol as a raw material for preparing a polyester, by purifying the glycol, generated in the polyester preparing step, and containing Ge with a cation exchange resin, and recovering the Ge efficiently without the removal thereof to the outside of the system. n CONSTITUTION: An aromatic dicarboxylic acid, e.g. terephthalic acid or isophthalic acid, is polycondensed with a glycol to prepare a polyester. The glycol, generated in the process, and containing Ge used as a polycondensing catalyst is treated with a cation exchange resin, e.g. a strongly acidic cation exchange resin. Colored substances contained in the glycol are removed to purify the glycol in a state containing the Ge efficiently. The treated glycol is directly used as a raw material for preparing the polyester, and the Ge contained in the glycol re-exhibits the polycondensing activity to give the polyester having physical properties not inferior to those of the polyester prepared from the commercially available purified glycol. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
