NEW MATERIAL:N-Acyl-N-alkyl-beta-aminoisobutyric acid or its salt of formula I (R<1> is methyl, ethyl; R<2>-CO- is lauroyl, myristoryl; M is H, Na, K). EXAMPLE:N-Lauroyl-N-methyl-beta-aminoisobutyric acid. USE:Surfactant: they show high foaming performance in hard water and have high hard-water resistance, no toxicity, high detergency and no irritation to skin, thus being used for liquid detergent, soap, shampoo, tooth powder or paste and cosmetics. PREPARATION:The reaction of methacrylonitrile with methylamine or ethyalamine is followed by hydrolysis of the product to give N-methyl or -ethyl-beta-aminosiobutyric acid. Then, lauroyl or myristoyl chloride is made to act on the product under an alkaline condition and the reaction mixture is made acidic to form the compound of formula I. |
