titleOfInvention Method for growing single crystal plate
abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a uniform single crystal plate of a material of formula (Ba 2-x Sr x )TiSi 2 O 8 , having uniform compostion, by the use of the EFG process (a method for growing a single crystal by pulling up from the molten liquid through the slit of a slit die). n CONSTITUTION: BaCO 3 , SrCO 3 , TiO 2 and SiO 2 are mixed together to obtain a mixture having a composition corresponding to the formula (Ba 2-x Sr x )TiSi 2 O 8 (0<×≤1.2), and the mixture is pulled up using an EFG process furnace to obtain a single crystal plate. A wide and high quality single crystal can be grown easily by the use of a pulling furnace consisting of a cylindrical crucible 1 having a slit die 2, and a heat-insulating cylinder (or after-heater) 6 having nearly the same diameter as the crucible 1 and placed on the crucible, wherein the heat-insulating cylinder 6 is furnished with a pair of windows 7, 7 at the oppposite parts of the lower end thereof (at the intersections of the extension of the slit 2 and the cylinder wall). The windows play the role of enlarging the length of the uniformly heated part along the width of the upper face of the die 2. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
