titleOfInvention 4-cyanobenzoic acid ester derivative of trans-4-substituted cyclohexanol
abstract NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula (X ia 1,4-di-substituted trans-cyclohexyl ring or phenyl ring; R is 1W10C alkyl). n EXAMPLE: 4-Cyanobenzoic acid trans-4'-(trans-4"-heptylcyclohexyl)cyclohexyl ester. n USE: A material for liquid crystal display element. It exhibits the nematic liquid crystal phase over a wide temperature range, and has high clear point. n PROCESS: The compound of formula (X is trans-cyclohexyl ring) can be prepared by converting 4-cyanobenzoic acid to the acid chloride with thionyl chloride, and reacting with trans-4-(trans-4'-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexanol in the presence of pyridine. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
