titleOfInvention Manufacture of polypropylene foam
abstract PURPOSE: To manufacture the titled foam which has a uniform and fine cell structure and is highly expanded, by performing an extrusion-foaming without a crosslinking using a polypropylene which has a minimum melt tension above a certain value and a small range of fluctuation of its value. n CONSTITUTION: A polypropylene resin (e.g.; isotactic polypropylene or ethylene- propylene copolymer) of which a minimum value of melt tension at 190°C is 3g or above and a ratio of its maximum and minimum values is 2.5 or below and a nucleating agent (e.g.; CaCO 3 or talc) are fed to an extruder, melted, and plasticized. Then a volatile foaming agent (e.g.; a mixture of trichlorotrifluoroethane and dichloro-tetrafluoroethane) is fed from a cylinder of the extruder and mixed uniformly, and the mixture is extruded to a low-pressure zone under cooling to obtain the foam. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
