abstract PURPOSE:To provide a heat-sensitive recording paper which forms a color with a black color tone when in contact with an acidic substance and provides a recorded image having excellent resistance to light and water, by providing a specified derivative of fluoran on a base as an electron-donative color former. CONSTITUTION:A derivative of fluoran of formulaI(where R<1> is 1-8 C alkyl; R<2> is 3-8 C alkyl; R<3> is 2-8 C alkenyl or a phenylalkyl which may be subst. by methyl or halogen on the benzene ring) (e.g., a compound of formula II) is provided on a base as an electron-donative color former together with a film- forming agent or the like to obtain the objective recording paper. The compound of formulaIis obtained, for example, by bringing a compound of formula III and a derivative of phenol of formula IV (where R is H, 1-4 C alkyl) into reaction by using a dehydrating-condensing agent at a temperature of -5-90 deg.C, followed by pouring the reaction product into water and treating with an alkali to crystallize the objective compound. EFFECT:Storage stability and color-forming property are enhanced.
