NEW MATERIAL:The 20C diol of formulaI(two Rs are same or different groups of formula II, formula III or formula IV). n EXAMPLE: 2,6,11,15-Tetramethylhexadeca-2,14-diene-7,9-diyne-6,11-diol. n USE: Useful as an intermediate for the preparation of crocetane, etc. which has excellent affinity to the skin and is useful as a cosmetic base, additive for cosmetics, medicines for external use, low-temperature lubricant, and a plasticizer for polymers. It is also useful in the field of adhesive, polyme modifier, etc. n PROCESS: The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting one or more ketones of formula V with diacetylene.
