titleOfInvention Production of porous cellulose material
abstract PURPOSE: To form a porous cellulose material suitable as a filter medium used in, for example, gel filtration, by immersing a cellulose material having a predetermined shape in a mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and formaldehyde, under agitation, to swell the material and then purifying the swollen material. n CONSTITUTION: 1pt.wt. cellulose material having a predetermined shape (e.g., regenerated cellulose particle having a predetermined particle size) is mixed with about 15W50pts.wt. DMSO and about 0.1W1.3pts.wt. formaldehyde at 0W130°C for 5W30min to swell the cellulose material. Then, the swollen material is filtered and washed with, for example, a lower alcohol or water to remove formaldehyde. Next, the material is purified to obtain a porous cellulose material. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
