titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for nondestructively measuring uranium
abstract PURPOSE:To verify uranium accurately and quickly, by irradiating photons to a sample from the outside, obtaining the concentration of the uranium in the sample from the intensity of the photons after they have transmitted through the sample, meanwhile, measuring the intensity of the gamma ray emitted from 235U in the sample, and obtaining the quantity of the 235U. CONSTITUTION:The photons from an external light source 1 are irradiated on the sample 4 through a shutter 2 and a collimator 3. The photons transmitted through the sample 4 are inputted to a first photon detector 6 through a collimator 5. The external light source 1 irradiates the phosons including the photon which has the intensity I10 and the energy E2 that is lower than the energy of the absorbing end of the uranium by the amount of minute energy, and the photon which has the intensity Ih and the energy Eh that is higher by the amount of the energy at the absorbing end of the uranium. When the shutter 2 is opened, the sample 4 is irradiated by said two kinds of photons, and the uanium concentration rhoU is computed. When the shutter 2 is closed, the enrichment R is computed from said rhoU. Thus the uranium is verified accurately and quickly.
