titleOfInvention Antitumor agent
abstract PURPOSE: A powerful antitumor agent containing nucleic acids, having a specific molecular weight and base composition, and prepared by extracting microbial cells of bacteria belonging to the genus Clostridium with an alkaline aqueous solution, precipitating the extract with a solvent, and collecting the nucleic acids from the water-soluble fraction as an active constituent. n CONSTITUTION: A strain of bacteria, e.g. Clostridium saccharoperbutylacetonicum N1-4, belonging to the genus Clostridium is cultivated by the anaerobic fermentation method, precipitated by the centrifugation, etc. at 6,000W12,000r.p.m. and then washed with cold water. The centrifugal precipitating operations are repeated to remove impurities and obtain the aimed material for extraction. The resultant material is then extracted with an alkaline aqueous solution, and the extract is precipitated with a solvent. The resultant water-soluble fraction is then subjected to the ion exchange chromatography to give nulceic acids having a molecular weight of 18,000 and a base composition (adenine: guanine: cytosine: thymine=32.4: 14.7: 15.3: 37.6). The nulceic acids are used as an active costituent to give the aimed antitumor agent. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
