titleOfInvention Production of water-absorbing solid
abstract PURPOSE: To produce a water-absorbing solid having excellent resistance to oil and water, and good water absorption, moisture absorption and water retension characteristics, by finely dispersing a water-absorbing polymer powder in a specified org. solid binder. n CONSTITUTION: One pt.wt. water-absorbing polymer having a particle size of 250μ or smaller such as polyacrylamide is mixed with 0.1W200pts.wt. org. solid binder composed of a polymer (e.g. PE) of at least one monomer selected from ethylene and α-substd. ethylene. If necessary, an antioxidant, an ultraviolet absorber, a colorant, etc. may be added. The moisture is molded into a required shaped such as a fiber or a sheet. n EFFECT: When the water-absorbing solid which has absorbed water is left to stand in a dry atmosphere, water is easily released from the surface of the solid and the original dry solid is regenerated and can be re-used. n USE: Water removing filters for org. solvents, buried sheets. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1982,JPO&Japio
